I think at squad level is less important communicate with voice; signs, hand and body gestures is enough to guide action. In planning maps and symbols on them indicate the objectives, trail, path rally point, etc. Maybe will be because we Italians have a habit of gesturing while explaining something...

As has been written, the problem arises with the different steps of spacing between the LPD and PMR. Many UHF radio have spacing compatible with LPD frequencies (each 25KHz) but not PMR (each 12,5KHz). So check your radio to know kinds of spacing available. My english is not so perfect to employe me as radio-man!
I speak a little english and french, but in firefight situations communication can be very garbled in native language ... mind in foreign!
But if I can contribute in some way are nicely available for NATO team.
