How much is enough?

Post by Viralstrayne » 11 Nov 2011, 20:53

After a bit of a search I was able to located and test some mid caps for my VFC SCAR L that is coming with me for B10.

They come in packs of ten x 85 rounds and I got to thinking....how many would I need to bring.

So here I am reaching out for some advice or even to know how many others are bringing

I plan to run with 10-15 on my gear. Sounds a bit overborad to me so someone let me know if I am crayzee or not hehe

Cheers :D

10-15 mags is not overboard. What you need is really about your role, style of play, fights you get into, your gun and also about how good you are. Last long -> sooner or later you'll need to reload mags in the middle of a firefight.

Last year I had roughly 1000-1200 bb:s in magazines, and was very very close to having all my mags dry at a few points.... Like the time on thursday, when our defence at the crossroads was hit by the poldavian mech company. They just kept on coming. Man, all those orange rags were starting to light up the forest ;)

(Of course accurate semi automatic fire conserves ammo, but I've personally never been into that ;)

Semi...whats that? lol

Well the VFC I have has a high speed motor which EATS up hi cap mags so I may need to learn the way of the semi auto before then

One thing I am not sure about also is the rules state you can have as many mags as you want + the 1200 rounds....now say I have 20 mids but I can only fit 15 on my loadout and I put the other other 5 in my backpack, do these count as still 'my mags' or part of that 1200?

At Berget 9 I ran 5 of those same magazines and I never ran out of ammo though I did feel a little like I was cutting it close. But I controlled my fire pretty well. I honestly doubt you will need more than maybe 7 or 8. More than that is just a luxury for peace of mind.

In B9 I could carry 26 STANAG-mags for those bigger engagements, but I actually carried "only" 16 mags. I used the M60 pouches to carry combat candy and morale restoring nuts. So in short: the more the merrier and it's good to have the capacity, even if you dont need it.

Jesus if you needed that much ammo! No wonder it felt like brutal butt rape when we attacked you at the night time! :?

At least some of you were kind enough to dig us fox holes. I think he was very happy to come back and find me in his fox hole haha. :p

"JUMALAUTA, NE ON MUN POTEROSSA. SE ON MINUN POTERO, MINÄ SAATANA KAIVOIN SEN ITSE!"

Which translates roughly to: "God damn it, they're in my foxhole! THAT'S MY FOXHOLE, I BLOODY DUG IT MYSELF!" No one gave us any orders when we came back to our camp, we just heard that scream and immediately went berzerk and charged you like the angry fist of a northern god.

But yeah, it's better to carry too much ammo and not need it than to carry too little. I dont know how other squads distributed their ammo, but our squads also carried extra magazines in our backpacks for teammates. We were well prepared for prolonged engagements. :P

Sounds like you two had a some fun with fists and holes.... haha

Thanks though for giving me a few different views on it one and all. I dont think I will feel mental now for brining 20 of these with me to the event! I'll load up the rig and keep the others in the bag then for one of those ' just incase' events :P

I play with 8 mags. When a mag is empty i put it with the BB hole upwards in my vest so i can reload them in my vest. If you have a big BB loader 300rds or so its done in seconds to reload 3-4 mags...

I have had 10 PTW mags with me (90rnd capacity) 2-3 years and never used more then 4-5 in ant larger battle. using Semifire and short burst and only shooting at stuff in sight and in range! so that has worked for me so this year I'm taking a sniper rifle with 2-3 mags and longer range hehe

+1 to that Crapgame.

I have 8 PTS 90 rds magpuls in my loadout and one in the rifle.. Never found it to be short.
I'm not one that sprays either.
For B10 I will be carring a Semi sniper for long range with X12 scope and a light loadout. maybe I only bring 30rds mags for the marksman role.
Anyway, I will be charging less and scoping more.

Bring as much ammo and as many mags as you can. If you're not using all of it you're not giving your friends sufficient covering fire
