Stoner LMG

Post by hyena » 29 May 2012, 21:50

Does anybody know whether the Stoner LMG, such as the ARES version is considered support weapon or a light support weapon, having in mind that the real version has all the characteristics of a "proper" machine gun - e.g. belt fed, changeable barell, etc.?

Support weapons are divided into 2 classes, support weapons and light support weapons. Both need to be fitted with bibod and Box/drum/cmag.

Light support weapons (KAC LMG, Stoner mk23, RPK, L86,HK23, MG36, G36 etc) are allowed to be tuned to max class 2 (see list above).
Support weapons,(RPK, PKM, M240, M249, M60, MK43, Mg3 etc) are allowed to be tuned to class 4 (see list above)
tadaa
as a rule of thumb: if it's 5.56 or comparable it's a light support weapon, if it's 7.62 it's a support weapon
the exception being the M249, although that shuold count as a light suport weapon in my humble opinion (and given that RPK is mentioned as an example of both configurations, the M249 as a support weapon might very well be a typo)

Nope, different weapon. The Stoner LMG is slightly larger and less "rifle-like" than the Stoner Mk23.

The stoner LMG is what they call the KAC LMG in the rules listed as a light support weapon.
