Ok short: If the radio works on legal frequencies, and you program and use the allowed frequencies with the correct settings on the radio, the radio is legal.

So yes, correctly programmed Wouxun KG689 400-470MHz is a good radio to use and legal. And so is many more. But if you program them wrong or use it wrong its illegal.

So it very much depends on the people using the radios.

But some radios, that is manufactured with a specific band/freuency and settings like FRS/GMRS isnt legal in Sweden, or Europe for that matter, the corresponding radios are called PMR in Europe and work on 446MHz.

... and on PMR the legal transmitting power is 0.5W (not 0.5mW).

Thank you.
Taken from this: http://www.motorola.com/walkie-talkie/e ... nglish.pdf it appears to be a PMR radio, so its on the right frequencies.

You can use it for comms within your squad, but thats about it. The channels used with the so called Berget radios are usually programmed to a bunch of different frequencies around 430-435mhz. Pretty sure theres a list somewhere on the forums of all the frequencies used at the event.

No, other methods of communication are just as allowed. Cellphones, morse-code, runners, signal flags, ...

Do bear in mind that the use of carrier pigeons and smoke signals will be frowned upon.

Although its range is limited and the transmissions aren't secure whatsoever, the ancient technique of shouting works rather well in the midst of combat.

When not in combat, whistling, snapping your fingers or slapping someone on the butt to draw their attention and then whispering the message or using hand signals works fine, too.
Interpretive dance is usually not suitable for tactical operations, but make for some rather interesting safety briefings :P

In all seriousness, unless your squad absolutely needs radios to communicate with each other, 2 will be plenty. 1 to talk to your platoon commander and 1 spare.
