Knives in Israel?

A question for our Israeli friends:
A friend of mine is about to go studying Hebrew to Israel, and he is used to carry a folding knife on him at all times. What are the legal regulations regarding knives or expandable batons in Israel, if any?

I'm not from Israel, but if search in Internet you can find:

Knife laws in Israel are very clear - 100mm max blade length and non locking is what the dry law permits, however, there have been problems here with long blades of various shapes. It's hard to describe but the blade has to be of a friendly shape or you could get in trouble because the law has another section that says that you can only legally carry a knife if you can prove that you are carrying it for a lawful purpose.

I don't think going in a library is a legitimate reason for carrying a knife!

Hi,

first it is depending on the knife length,
which should not be more then 100mm or 4inch,
if your friend will decide to bring his own knife with him to Israel,
tell him that he must to be careful from the police Cause you will never know on what policeman you might fall,
there is always a chance that they will confiscate it.
