The German tents

Post by NIN » 10 Jul 2012, 15:10

What do you guys think about the German tents. The ones with floors and mosquito nets over the windows.

Give me some feedback about their +/-

We are thinking of buying more of them in the future and we really need to know that you think of them.

Maybe if we dont put out the floor at first and let you guys canvas the ground first. The rocky situatiuation might be avoided if you at afterwards can roll out the floor yourself.

We have been using an another size but pretty similiar german tent since B8, and we have no regrets, ever.

This is the model: http://www.varusteleka.com/product/isot ... lang=en_US

We use a lightweight tarpaulin on the ground to keep the ground dry, wich is very inexpensive to buy and very reusable but not eternal. But cost's around 5-20 euros a piece (two pieces needed in our tent)

...of course we have been using a stove also in there to keep it dry when needed, but anyway, this tent has been working exellent.
And since that model NIN is aslking about is very similiar, I am happy to give a thumbs up with that.

OUR tent +/-
+ Easy to assemble
+ a HUGE amount of space
+ those window's are handy
+ Very strong canvas
+ Can be easily fitted with an other brand stove

- a bit heavy (not to be carried around)
- Does not have a "storm-lobby" on the door
- Does not include a stove (?)

only negative thing i can think of for these tents are the way the "windows" got shut. no way to seal them that i saw. we had some heft rain come in through the windows that i for one didnt notice before i woke up from allmost drowning in my soaked pillow.

and next year, have someone that actually KNOW how to set up a tent do it. having to go out in the rain in the middle of the night cus our tent is blowing away isnt too much of a fun surprise :)

but then again it could have been worse. it could have been one of the round swedish tents.

i allso enjoyed the oppertunity to hang some rope between the tent poles (middle ones) so we could dry our clothes.

I would say it's an improvement over the Swedish model, at least when considering an airsoft game: more room to move around (also field cots fit in better) and better ventilation. The only gripe is the lack of fittings for a stove, but this can be remedied with some work.

The slightly increased weight is a non-issue, since those don't have to be moved long distances by hand.

Do you already have a specific supplier or are you open for other offers as well?

They were fine until the rain came. Lots of water inside when we woke up in ours saturday morning. I tried, but couldn´t decide whether we had one leak or many. Most likely a combination of concensation and leaking windows.
Mind you, we dug a ditch around it and resecured everything after the first night, so I am a bit disappointed. A major pro, though, you can walk upright in them. I think maybe you should look for something a little more high end. Or figure out a way to make the windows water tight.

I'd say yes, do so, but also, if possible, buy different style tents for different factions of possible. Just to make a bit more of a difference between the factions.

At B9, we had one as HQ in UN-Camp.
We slept in half of it, and didn´t experianced any leaks. We closed the windows (somehow), and i was amused about it.

After 5min info how to set it up, we did it on our own in no more than 30min... With experience, that time could be shorter.

We will buy one by our self, for our team!!!

Yes they are nice but when in bad weather BE should also focus on getting Stoves for each tent so that people can sleep in a dry place.

(we had our own tent and stove but I'm speaking for the masses who can't bring their own tent.)
