Generally, better than last time I'd say. The powerlines screwed up the comms a bit.

GSM/data network was pretty terrible in that area, like really really terrible. :P

It was, extremely, Horrible.

Recon Units could could not reach beyond the borders, unless they went on one of the major hills.
I had to walk to the northern border several times to reach troops at fisherman hut ( which was the area of major operatons for recon thruout the game ).

As discussed with Sonny at GCT HQ, a major improvement would be for Berget events to aqquire 10 or so Shortwave(?) Radios to hand out to recon units that go on long range missions.

For recon units, radios that aint working is a gamebreaking issue, especially with GSM networks down more than half of the game.

Example 1)
Recon units spotted major attack on GCT base, couldnt reach us to warn us.

Example 2)
We heard ( what we thought was ) Enemy artillery, and i wanted to Triangle scan the battlefields to find the location of the artillery cannon.. could only reach ONE out of 6(!) groups on the field.

Example 3)
The kidnapped miners were to be excecuted at the old mine in a VERY Short timespan, and we had 2 recon groups on the hill next to the old mine. Couldnt reach any, so couldnt assist in a hit on them....

This is just 3 MAJOR things, but small things went on thruout the week that could have changed ALOT of things..

So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE consider getting longrange radios for Recon.

Well for my opinion communication wasn't really that good as it suppost to be. At the Border the PMRs didn't work very well and we had also some issues with the Radio, which was given to us by C&C.

I repost here my comment:
With this regards, I think making an official "Radio Operator" role just like Engineer and Medic would be valuable. If each unit have its own Radio operator, responsible for having the correct material and correct setup to communicate with HQ (basically a PX 888 setting up correctly, the other brand of Radio are not always compatible with each other otherwise), would remove a lot of trouble for in game communication with HQ. On the other end of the communication, a permanent officer should be there in the commanding tent to received the communication (that is maybe the case already, but I have the feeling the com get directly to the Commander, sometime occupied to something else).

Responsibility of the Platoon Radio Operator:
- Having the material and setting up correctly
- Gives Situations update regularly
- Gives Intel whenever possible (enemy movement, absence of enemy,...)

Responsibility of the HQ radio officer:
- Take notes of the status of the different platoon on the field
- Every Hour or so: Mission Continue, Mission Abord, Mission changed

You can even add that if you don't have the Radio OP patch, you can't communicate on HQ Frequencies, so it make those player valuables. A unit with vital info that lost its Operator should find one somewhere to get in touch with the HQ.

I like this idea. It ads another milsim (we don´t call it larp since milsim sounds much cooler) element to the game.

I don't like the idea. It's not a milsim-aspect, because at least in the Finnish military every grunt gets somekind of training to operate the radioequipment. Otherwise having designated radio officers (who are up to their tasks) sounds good.

I don't claim to be a specialist, but I guess if everyone got the training, not everyone get on the field with the equipment. So one can consider the patch as a mark that you got the correct stuff on you to make the call ;) And if you want to be really "milsim" you can replace the patch by a 1kg box of sand to put on your load out.

Everyone, atleast in my unit, got a basic training(how change fregs, how to use different antennas, what do if poor reception, how change signal strenght and transmitting modes. This training was for three different radios.) NCO's and officers of course got more training and I could say that atleast half of the men used them in the field, at least one kind of radio.
