BAVS Receiver Power Supply

I have trouble finding the information on the website, but if I recall it right players need to provide a battery for the BAVS receiver unit. And if I recall even more right, was it 8.4 or 9.6v battery with Tamiya mini connector? Will it work with 12 volt power supply taken straight from the car?

Ps. I know there have been other asking this in various threads. Just thought that making an own thread for this matter would help other find the same information.
