Suggestion: dedicated specialist units

Post by vinni » 08 Jul 2022, 12:49

An idea based on the sapper unit.

Usually engineers and medics are scattered throuhgout the infantry units, 1 each per squad.
However, this makes a decently scaled casualty collection point or large mine breach operation an organisationel nightmare as you'd have to pull all medics or engineers from their squad that they paid money for to play with.

So, would a dedicated squad/platoon of medics and a dedicated squad/platoon of engineers (not allowed to carry anything lerger than a regular rifle) be an idea to apply for these situations?
Throw a squad of medics on a transport and you'll set up a CCP in no time. A section of engineers and they'll breach that minefield easily, all without losing contact with the friends they travelled to Sweden with.

Thoughts?

As I was commanding the Sapper unit this year I had the chance to see the pros and cons of using a special unit to tasks like that. I can tell you that the logitical nightmare is big to get those units to the right place at the right time. My guys were on standby a lot of the time. We had to have an escort for our one hit wonder vehicle. That means that they were almost never in the front. (Except when the plan when out the window). The Sappers have their dedicated medic in their squad so when one of my squad arrived there was 1 extra medic per squad to set up that medic station.

I also noticed that usually when a big medic pit is set up, it's in the base or during the bigger attacks. By keeping a platoon in the rear for defence you have 4-6 medics ready to set up that medic pit.

But on the other hand, I liked the challenge to organise that unit as good as possible so when needed we were there.
